PREPARE TO PASS

Theory Test

Your theory test must be passed before you can take your practical. Here's how Barry helps you prepare and pass with confidence.

What is the Theory Test?

The DVSA theory test is made up of two parts: a multiple choice section (50 questions, must score 43+) and a hazard perception section (14 video clips, must score 44+). You must pass both parts in the same sitting.

Your theory test pass certificate is valid for 2 years. If you don't take your practical within that time, you'll need to re-sit the theory.

Barry recommends booking your theory test early and revising consistently - it's not something to leave until the last minute.

Tips for Passing Your Theory Test

Start revising early

Don't leave it until a few days before. Build up your knowledge gradually over several weeks.

Learn the Highway Code thoroughly

Many questions come directly from the Highway Code. Read it cover to cover at least once.

Practice hazard perception regularly

The hazard clips require a specific technique - click as soon as you spot a developing hazard, not when it's already obvious.

Use official practice tests

Always use DVSA-approved content. Unofficial question banks may include outdated or incorrect questions.

Book your test before you feel 100% ready

Having a test date booked is a great motivator. Most learners revise harder once it's in the diary.
