Barry's Advice

Which should I choose?

For most learners, manual is the best long-term choice because it opens up more driving options. However, if you struggle with the coordination required for gears and clutch, or if you simply want to pass as quickly as possible, automatic is a perfectly valid choice.

Does it take longer to learn manual?

It varies by person. Some pupils find manual comes naturally; others find automatic easier to focus on the road. On average, automatic learners can need slightly fewer lessons - but this isn't always the case.

Can I switch between the two?

You can - but you'll need to re-take your test in the other vehicle type to have it added to your licence. Barry recommends deciding upfront to avoid unnecessary cost.

I have a medical condition - which is better?

Automatic is often recommended for people with conditions affecting limb coordination, as it removes the need for clutch control. Barry is happy to discuss your individual situation - just get in touch.
